"YES WE DID"
That was the chant of the night! History was made. I have never been so moved. Lucy and I could not contain our excitement and left the house to find others to celebrate with. First we went to a local house party hosted by a physician. It was about 10:30 and there were just 10 people standing around with food in there hands chatting with each other....old people can be so boring!!!! 10 minutes later we were headed downtown to The Brewery, the downtown bar with hundreds of people dancing and smiling and hugging.....and that was BEFORE it was called. We all gathered around the mega-screen with MSNBC being broadcast. As the time approached 11PM, the whole room started a countdown, It was a New Year's Eve of sorts after all. Then the network predicted the Obama Presidency and the crowd erupted. Everyone was crying, strangers hugging strangers, Lucy & I too. And there were other volunteers we had worked with, we were all crying and screaming. And then a chant started "Yes we did" "Yes we did"....the chant went out into the street, out into the night, cars were honking their support. One of those moments in history that everyone will remember where they were that night.
