The Obama Campaign

I have been working 5-8 hour days for the Obama Campaign here in Allentown PA. There are a lot of out of town volunteers like me (seeing it is a swing state) and we do most anything from door-to-door canvassing to data entry and phone calling. I brought my laptop into the office and have mostly been doing the latter two. Funny story about that......I have Skype on my laptop so when I was doing data entry on voters, their phone number is highlighted with a Skype icon (as is normal), so the first day I was there I mentioned this feature to the head volunteer, a man my age, and said that I could call and enter the data in real time (a job being done by 2 people) using my headset and this feature. He said "oh no, just do the way we're doing it". OK. Then on my second day there, I showed this information to the paid staff (a young guy in his 20's, he put his teaching carreer on hold for Obama) and he said "great, go for it". Now I not only can make more phone calls in less time (since I don't have to dial the numbers, just click an icon), but enter the responses and job done!

One day they asked me to go with a group of other women over to the Bethlehem PA campagne office to be in a photo op for Lily Ledbetter. She sued Goodyear Tire for pay disparity when she found out she wasn't being paid the same amount as men who were doing the exact same job. Last year the court ruled against her, but now she is working tirelessly to enact legislation to correct this egregious error.

good for you with the skype,...probably the first fellow didn't understand the concept. I'm glad to hear that you are having a good time and enjoying your travels. Looking forward to catching up together next summer.
